The Ateneo de Manila University hosted the second All-Ateneo Business Case Competition (AABC) last February 28 in partnership with Accenture and Security Bank Corporation, with the theme of Transformation through Generational Change in Family Business. The annual competition among the five Ateneo universities — Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Manila, Naga, and Zamboanga — was initiated with the objective of sharing among Ateneo universities the experience of preparing for and participating in case competitions. The AABC was conceptualized by a trio of faculty that includes Mr. Johnny Filart, Mr. Jay Cruz, and Mr. Hector Guballa, all John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) faculty members. Since 2008, they have been mentoring students in analyzing a wide spectrum of case studies to prepare for local and international case competitions. Aside from bringing the Ateneo universities together, the trio aims to see the universities collaborating to publish Ateneo’s very own compilation of business cases.
Four BS Management Engineering sophomores emerged as the champions. The team, consisting of Tiffany Diane Golangco, John Michel Lee, Beatriz Ysabel Reyes, and Hazel Anne Louise Si, was coached by JGSOM’s Mr. Immanuel Gabriel Sin and was tasked to analyze a case studied by BS Management Engineering alumni in their superproject/thesis about Packing Packers, Inc. The team presented their in-depth analysis and strategic solution on how the company can grow while remaining as a family business to a panel of judges from Accenture, Security Bank Corporation, D&L Industries, and the Ateneo Family Business Development Center. The ADMU team bested those from Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Naga University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. Hazel Si also received the Best Presenter Award. Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan received second place while Ateneo de Zamboanga University won third.
